Into week two of our trip, and the days are speeding by. We decided to ‘do’ Helsinki on our own, as we knew what we wanted to see, and where they were. First stop was the fish/fruit market. Dozens of stalls displaying all sorts of colourful produce. Everything looked really fresh, and is was just a shame that we were so well fed that we didn’t need to buy anything to eat.
A stroll along the water’s edge to see the tall ships and expensive boats, then across the river at the Love Bridge to the Rock Church. This is another of my favourites – even when it’s busy with visitors, it exudes peace. Carved from the local rock, it’s barely visible from the outside; just looks like a hole in the wall with a bit of a dome on top. Inside it’s truly awesome.
The weather hasn’t broken yet – probably the best weather we’ve ever encountered in the Baltic.
